Who knew that in the past few months since posting, I'd see such a huge turnaround of events in our Financial World. Business owners are nervous, and the banks are drying up right around us.
What can we do to protect ourselves? THINK POSITIVE! One of the things about negativity is that it breeds like wild fire. When one person in a room starts whining about something, others join in - perhaps out of sympathy at first. Then before you know it, a whole room full of people feel worse than they did before.
As business owners, our job is to maintain a proper outlook. When clients ask how you're doing, don't complain! Even if business JUST HAPPENS TO BE SLOWER than normal, that doesn't mean that you need to share that fact.
Never complain to a client or customer about business being slow. It makes you seem negative & desperate, whether that was your original intent or not. Who wants to do business with a negative person?
Worse yet, if they think your business is bad, they may just think twice about calling on you next time. Everywhere your clients look they see businesses failing. If six months from now - or even next month! - they want to do business with you, they may just think that you're not around any longer because you were telling them how bad it is.
Tell 'em you're keeping busy! Tell 'em your health is fine and you're ready to rock. Explain that you are adjusting your business model to fit the times. Don't ever, EVER let them see you sweat.
Positive thoughts create positive folks. The best defense is a good offense. If you avoid the negative you'll also be healthier & happier! You may not be able to turn around all the negative conversations around you.
But you most certainly CAN control conversation that's on a one-on-one with your clients. Keep yourself motivated to keep THEM motivated to keep buying from you.
