The San Diego Wildfire season really caught lots of us by surprise. I remember the 2003 fires all to well, though they did not directly affect me at that time. This year was a bit different though and the effects seem to be just as bad if not worse than four years ago.
Business slowed to a crawl. It took a lot out of us, to watch the news and learn that we were in the middle of the largest-ever fire related evacuation in our Nation's history. Right here in San Diego, proud to be America's Finest City.
Now a couple of weeks have gone by and things are starting to get back to normal. The fires are - SO thankfully! - under control and the air quality is much better. We can literally breathe again. Business for many of us is back to normal again, but we have to remember that there are a LOT of folks out there who were burned out or at least evacuated out of their homes. For them, life will not be back to normal for some time to come.
The San Diego Business climate has always been one of change and one with a small town mentality. The community helps its own and I encourage everyone to be thankful for what you have, and share. We are not New Orleans and are fortunate to be in a city with real leadership. It showed during the fire season and we need to continue showing it now. Our city is rising up from the ashes as we speak, and we have a lot of people to thank for that. Remember them!
